Community Sponsorship
Ambassadors of Welcome
Community. Partnership. Friendship.
Not quite ready to complete the Community Sponsor Interest Form, or have questions about something else? Contact Melissa Hammond, our Co-Sponsorship Coordinator.
Sponsorship is offering a hand up. It is not total responsibility for our immigrant neighbors.
Sponsors form teams and each team member backs up the others, offering their own time, talent, and energy, however much or little it may be. What might be daunting alone, sponsors have the strength of each other.
Groups of Support
Group Basics
- 7-10 Members
- Community Group or Faith Community
- 4-6 Month Commitment
- Partnered with 1 Client Household
- Provide Social Support toward their goals of self-sufficiency
- Provide Financial Support for 4 months of rent
- Identify Housing and set-up with basic needs
Social Support
During the 4 month commitment, Community Sponsor groups support their refugee partner as they adjust to their new community. Community Sponsors help their partners navigate their new neighborhood and city, pay their bills and rent, make medical and social services appointments, and work toward other goals developed by the client's CWS Case Manager.
Financial Support
Community sponsors commit to paying at least four months of rent for their refugee partners. The exact amount will vary depending on what type of housing is most appropriate for a specific client household. Clients often arrive with limited resources and this financial support allows them to focus on the immediate tasks of language learning, cultural orientation, and employment.
