Is your birthday coming up? Do you want to challenge yourself to a milestone swim, run, or hike? Create a personal fundraiser for CWS Durham and have a blast while raising money for your refugee and immigrant neighbors!
A personal fundraiser is a fun and easy way to encourage donations to CWS Durham by sharing a cause you are passionate about with your friends and family.
Create your fundraiser using Facebook:

You can also fundraise in person by hosting a dinner or a workshop and donating the proceeds to CWS Durham at cwscwsdurham.org/give !

Need some ideas to get started?
The sky is the limit when it comes to fundraising! Here are some examples of easy and fun fundraisers:
- Teach a workshop and donate the entrance fees to CWS Durham
- Ask your favorite restaurant or brewery to donate a percentage of their proceeds on a specific day
- Ask friends and family to sponsor you to meet a challenge, like running a 5k or shaving your head
- Host a movie screening about refugees or immigration and charge an entrance fee
- If you are a baker or artist, organize a sale and donate the proceeds to CWS Durham
These are only a few possibilities to get your mental gears turning! Anything that you love to do (or need to do – hello yardsale!) can become a way to support your refugee and immigrant neighbors.

We’ve created some resources to help you along the way. Here is a list of tips for hosting a successful fundraiser, and this is a Donation Goal Chart to help you set your fundraising goal.
If you need some help to tell your story, we have provided sample language below. Feel free to use this language in an email or any other fundraising platform if you aren’t on Facebook or Team CWS – just send make sure to link your message directly to our secure website donation page at cwsrdu.org/give/ if you are not using Facebook so that your supporters will know where to give.
Here is some basic language for your fundraiser:
General Fundraiser:
CWS Durham is an amazing organization that I am involved with as a (choose your role – donor, staff member, volunteer, community member). We are raising money to support refugees and immigrants in our community through education, services, and advocacy.
Did you know that it costs $50 to file for a work permit? Or that it costs $250 to apply for citizenship? If only 10 people gave $25, we could donate the equivalent of one person’s citizenship application! My goal is to raise X amount of money in the next X amount of time to support CWS Durham’s programs and advocacy work.
You can help! Every gift makes a difference, no matter how small. Please join me in welcoming our refugee and immigrant neighbors by donating to this organization that has done so much amazing work in our community! I’ve seen the impact of CWS in my neighborhood, and I’m excited to be a part of this work. Thank you for your support!
Birthday or Milestone Fundraiser:
CWS Durham is an amazing organization that I am involved with as a (choose your role – donor, staff member, volunteer, community member).
